 Outreach to local Memphis youth continues through Don’s participation
as a regular speaker with the Juvenile Court and his access to
thousands of boys and girls with serious gang and drug-related problems
each year. On-going work with the homeless through the distribution of hygiene kits, clothing, and shelter vouchers for over-night stays at the Memphis Union Mission, as well as counseling, continues to be an outreach and kindness to the poor and homeless in downtown Memphis. The homeless are also assisted with obtaining state identification through MICO working with Hospitality HUB. Without proper I.D., work and other steps for getting off the streets are not possible. The Tuesday morning Bible Study group Don leads at Mark Lutrell Women’s Prison developed a service project to help the homeless at Memphis Union Mission, purchasing over $800.00 in supplies and hand-made items. Inmates at the Whiteville, TN Men’s Prison, where Don conducts chapel services on Wednesday nights, also express interest in having a part in spreading God’s Word and Love to other countries and contribute financially to MICO’s international mission. What an impact when those incarcerated reach out to others. The MICO kindness to the poor stretches around the world through international mission trips to Haiti, Cambodia, Thailand, and India, wherever the door of opportunity opens under God’s direction . It is hard to imagine the areas of the world and the number of lives touched by contributions and volunteers working with MICO from those initial outdoor VBS sessions. Through MICO, we can all touch lives both here in Memphis and around the world. Financial support, donations of clothing and hygiene items, as well as volunteering time to local service projects, all work together to spread the Good News and kindness to the poor.
