Mustard Seed Global Fellowship
Nick and I met and married during our years at Bible College. We became fully convinced of God’s love for the whole world and our part in being obedient to share that love. Jesus told his disciples in the Bible that it doesn’t take a huge amount of faith to obey God and see Him do great things. Faith as small as a mustard seed in our great God is enough that “nothing is impossible!” We are believing that now as we are living with our two little ones, Coco, age 4, and Owen, age 2, here in Okazaki, Japan. We are asking God to take our lives and our mustard seeds of faith and work powerfully. We have been here since the middle of January, and each day we feel a little more settled: finding a park for the kids, figuring out how to use our Japanese appliances, remembering to take off our shoes before we step into our tatami mat living room. The children are going to an all Japanese daycare two days a week to help them become familiar with the language and have time with other kids. The teachers call them, “Coco-chan” and “Owen-khun”. Coco was so excited at the end of her first day, jumping up and down telling us, “I learned the Japanese word for towel! And I drank Japanese tea at lunch and it is not gross! And I goed to the bathroom on a squat- down potty. It’s not hard!” Her courage and enthusiasm for the new situation inspire me. Owen is less excited, but he does like the Thomas train set toys there. Nick spends each weekday in 5-7 hours of Japanese language study in a classroom, learning the three Japanese alphabets and trying to accumulate more vocabulary. In April, after the kids feel more settled, I will start attending classes full-time as well. For now I will study while Coco and Owen are at daycare. We are all aware of our need to learn this complicated, lovely language we hear all around us, but some days it seems impossible. Those days I am especially encouraged to read again those words from Jesus, “...if you had faith as small as a mustard seed... Nothing would be impossible.” (Matthew 17:20) We are living and serving here with a church-planting team of three families and two single guys. We are all committed to this season of language training so that we can most effectively live and minister in Japan long-term. We have a vision for reaching out, building friendships and planting cell-churches. Our organization is called Mustard Seed Global Fellowship and our website is www.msgf.com if you would like to know more about us and our team. We are so grateful for New Hope Christian Church, and the prayer, encouragement and support we receive from all of you! |
