“Laying a fleece before the Lord” started with Gideon. His fleece was because of his fear and apprehension - he even laid out his fleece twice. Then God takes this man into battle of insurmountable odds. He doesn’t give him a bazooka, instead he gives him jars, torches, and trumpets. Not your typical battle gear.
